Battlefield Research

I have had a life-long interest in warfare, in particular the Second World War and post WW2 period. I have read very widely on the subject and travelled widely throughout Europe to many of the WW2 battlefields and areas of interest. This knowledge is useful for creating realistic battle scenarios, architectural modelling and the development of good game artificial intelligence and level layouts.

Tactics and Game AI

I have had a life-long interest in military history and have been a prolific reader on the subject. I have been particularly interested in 20th Century warfare and especially the Second World War.

Throughout my career I have been able to draw upon my extensive knowledge of warfare to develop and enhance the A.I. of the combat games I have worked on; primarily Without Warning and Dogs of War.

Crete

I toured the WW2 sites on the island of Crete in 2001. The eastern mediterranean is dominated by this beautiful island and the Germans captured it from the Allies in May 1941. The German invasion was called operation Mercury and was spearheaded by paratroopers. The most critical battle was at Maleme airfield to the west of the island. The Germans were eventually victorious but suffered appalling casualties during the conflict and it's poignant that the German military cemetary overlooks Maleme airfield now. There is a large Allied cemetry at Suda Bay and a museum inland recording the Cretan resistance. I was also able to visit an AA bunker complex near to Chania.
